Number of donor children

SellmerDiers sperm bank is the only sperm bank in the world cooperating with a clinic to offer a world-wide limit on the number of children per donor.

In that way the ID-release donor can grasp the commitment of being an ID-release donor in the future.

Danish legislation

Danish legislation includes rules limiting the number of viable pregnancies in women residing in Denmark, where the pregnancies have been achieved with sperm from one and the same donor. This means that in Denmark sperm from one and the same donor cannot be used to create more than 12 donor children distributed geographically across the country.

However, more than 12 children may be created in twin pregnancies and if the donor sperm from one and the same donor is used for artificial insemination to have siblings, when the customer already has a child with the donor.

SellmerDiers guidelines

The sperm bank has adopted internal guidelines to limit the number of viable pregnancies in women residing abroad, where the pregnancies have been achieved with sperm from one and the same donor.

This means that sperm from an ID-release donor cannot be used to create more than 25 children worldwide.

However, more than 25 children may be created in twin pregnancies and if the donor sperm from one and the same donor is used for artificial insemination to have siblings, when the customer already has a child with the donor.
